Meaning

  • (not) even
  • yet
  • still

Definition

A conjunction indicating concession, used to introduce a fact that is already known or obvious, and then implies a further inference or comparison, often with “何况” (let alone) or “更不用说” (not to mention).

Usage

Used in the first clause of a compound sentence to present an obvious or milder fact, followed by “何况” or “更不用说” in the second clause to indicate that if the first is true, then the second is even more true. It can also be used alone to mean 'even... (then more so...).'
