Definition

把不同的人或事物放在一起谈论或看待。

To mention or compare different people or things in the same breath.

Usage

通常用于否定句，表示不能把两者等同看待，强调差别很大。

Often used in negative sentences, indicating that two things cannot be equated or compared due to significant differences.

Examples

  • 1 他们两个能力差距太大，不能相提并论。 (The gap in their abilities is too large; they cannot be mentioned in the same breath.)
  • 2 名牌大学和普通学校的教学质量不能相提并论。 (The teaching quality of prestigious universities and ordinary schools cannot be compared.)
  • 3 我们不能把这两件事相提并论，因为它们性质完全不同。 (We cannot compare these two things because they are completely different in nature.)
  • 4 他的成就与前辈相比，简直不能相提并论。 (His achievements are simply incomparable to those of his predecessors.)
  • 5 虽然都是文学作品，但古典小说和现代网络小说不能相提并论。 (Although both are literary works, classical novels and modern web novels cannot be mentioned in the same breath.)
