Definition
在汉语中,“很”常与形容词或状态动词连用,表示程度或构成谓语。当与形容词搭配时,“很”不一定表示“非常”,而常常是语法需要,使句子完整。一些动词如“喜欢”、“需要”、“怕”等也可以与“很”连用,表示程度加深。
In Chinese, '很' (hěn) is often used with adjectives or stative verbs to indicate degree or to form a predicate. When used with adjectives, '很' does not necessarily mean 'very'; it often serves a grammatical function to make the sentence complete. Some verbs like '喜欢' (to like), '需要' (to need), '怕' (to fear) can also be used with '很' to indicate a higher degree.
Usage
形容词后用“很”构成谓语,是汉语中的常见结构。例如:很高、很好、很大。在肯定句中,“很”的使用很普遍,即使不强调“非常”也常出现。对于状态动词如“喜欢”、“需要”等,“很”可以放在前面加强语气。注意:否定句和疑问句中使用较少。
Using '很' after an adjective to form a predicate is a common structure in Chinese. For example: 很高 (very tall), 很好 (very good), 很大 (very big). In affirmative sentences, '很' is commonly used even when not emphasizing 'very'. For stative verbs like '喜欢' (to like), '需要' (to need), '很' can be placed before to emphasize degree. Note: It is used less in negative and interrogative sentences.
